Aloha Hawaii
We're back in Honolulu, staying on the beach in Waikiki. The trip here Thursday was fine, though long of course...11 1/2 hours in the air, a total of about 16 hours from the time we left home until we got checked in and arrived in our room.
Flying out here worked great. We managed to upgrade to First Class on both flights, which is important since they were both long flights. On our first one, there were only 19 people in the cabin, which holds 24, so we got pretty personalized service from the 2 very gay flight attendants. They weren't as cute as the boy sitting two rows in front of us (and we couldn't figure out if he was gay or not, but he was fun to look at) but they were nice and we chatted a bit at different times. One of them gave us a bottle of wine before we got off, which was a really nice thing to do. I'll definitely write them up in the post-flight survey online. The second flight was more crowded and the flight attendants were all women, all older, and all a bit flighty, but we got here OK and that's all that matters.
Adrian, who hasn't been drinking in a year, started drinking wine with dinner again recently. Yesterday, though, he made up for lost time on our second flight: champagne before takeoff, a mai tai before lunch, wine with lunch, after-lunch liqueur, and then a beer at dinner last night down the street from the hotel. Yeah, he slept pretty well last night, I think.
The hotel is great...they had trouble finding a room with a king-sized bed so they upgraded us to the nicer tower, the one I used to stay in when I was a Hilton Gold VIP member (I'm only Silver now). Nicer rooms, free access to the gym, Starbucks in the lobby, located next to the parking garage so makes it easier for us...good deal all around.
Weather here should be good...some clouds and showers off and on during the day, but highs in the 80s and lows in the 70s at night...a lot different from DC right now!
Got up around 8am...sleeping pills kept me asleep through the time change/jet lag. Headed down to the beach in a few minutes...yay!!! Tonight, we're out for good food and some dancing, methinks.
Aloha!!

The view from our balcony -- the clouds are normal in the morning, and are already breaking up
