Friends and Such
I’m in Tampa, Florida now for a few days of work. It was 75 degrees here, which would seem to be a nice change from the frigid temperatures in DC. But of course it warmed up at home today just as I left. That’s pretty normal for the universe’s little tricks these days.
This has been the week for friends. Over the weekend I got to see old friends and newer ones in NYC, and Monday and Tuesday were spent with old friends here at home.
On Monday Lorraine came to town for a conference, the first time we’ve overlapped here since I moved back. The last time we saw each other was when Adrian and I visited her in Pittsburgh while she was in grad school (and so was I) back in 2002. Now we’re both called “Doctor” and that’s hot.

It’s nice to know some things in life don’t change, and Lorraine falls into that category. We’ve known each other for 15 years (it sounds so much older when I actually say it) and we’ve both had plenty of oddness during that time. She’s a researcher for University of Pittsburgh ut is talking about taking a job here at some point. So yay that!!
Tuesday night was a farewell to Tracy, who us taking the plunge and moving to California. He’s been telecommuting for years with a firm out there owned by a friend…this is the second firm there that he’s worked for and he’s decided it’s time to pick up and move there.

He’s talked about this for years and somehow I knew he’d do it once I moved back here. He made an interesting point last night, that it was easier to say goodbye to me than to any of his other friends, because of course we’ve been through this before, when I moved away in 2002. We still saw a lot of each other during the intervening years, and I know that will be the case now, too. We might even see more of each other than we have in the last few months when we both lived here!
Oh, and I should mention that I have absolutely no interest in the Anna Nicole Smith story. None whatsoever.
