And So It Ends
The word went out today: Diary-X's drive failure is unrecoverable. Though I have backups of the first 4 years of my journal, October 2000 - October 2004, I don't think I saved anything during the last 16 months. Of course, I didn't post as much last year as I used to, in part because we were gone so much on different trips, but there were indeed some things that would have been nice to save. I will have to sit down and write up my memories before they vanish, as they tend to do more often now that I am a bit older.
The lesson here is to backup your journal. Often.
I'm not sure yet where I'll host the journal, if I'll just load up the software to run it myself or try another service...I've never really cared for Blogspot too much so I'll see what my other options are. Once I get it up I'll look at transferring all my archived files up to the new journal.
I gave some thought to not journaling anymore, it's not the same as it was nearly 6 years ago when I started, just doesn't seem that interesting to anyone else. Then again, the fact that I've managed to keep a journal this long when I could never do that before suggests I have found the right medium to keep me going, and I should continue. Just a few days before the crash I was going back through the archives reliving some very cool memories. I need to keep recording those. Because I have a very cool life.
