Happy Birthday to My Partner in Crime
Gosh, it seems like just a year ago that Adrian turned 26. And two years ago that he turned 25 while we were in Montreal. Or three years ago that we celebrated his 24th birthday in New York City. Anyway, I told him I was taking him to dinner tonight but didn't say where. We drove downtown and I pulled into the parking lot at Western Sizzlin', turned off the car, and started to get out. He said, "you're just being a big silly goose, aren't you? Aren't you???" Yes, of course I was. I started up the car and drove us to a French restaurant he's been wanting to try. Yay for birthdays, they're the best excuses. In addition to taking him to see Josh Groban 2 weeks ago, I got him some Groban sheet music. Of course, I bought him the book of Groban's new album, as well as a song that is one of his favorites, and naturally, that song was also in the songbook (oops). But hey. it's the thought that counts. And maybe he can loan the individual song's music to our friend Angelo, because it has guitar chords on it, and Angelo is quite the guitar player.Oh, and he got roses, too. Happy birthday to my sweetie!!

Cycles

Amazing how biorhythms go through cycles. I went on a roller coaster over the 3-day weekend. Low point was on Monday, but I was back up on Tuesday. There's been some stress at work because I'm supposed to be going on a 4-month assignment somewhere, but I can't find out WHEN I'm going. I thought I'd be going in September, but I haven't gotten a date yet and I need some notice. I'm trying to get some info because it's making it tough to make plans, not only at work but at home. I'm afraid it's going to be pushed back until January, which is going to mess up our Hawaii trip in March. This is getting ridiculous. Our friend Rob left for grad school at Harvard this week. For the rest of his life every story he tells will start with "when I was at Harvard..."His partner is taking the seperation well.Adrian's birthday week was fun. Took him on a date at the end of the week. Always a good time.I threw together some homemade whipped cream as I was fixing dessert last night. It got used for other purposes too.

Yucky Feeling

I don't know what's been going on but I've had a general "blah" feeling the last couple days. Stomach's bothering me, feeling week, that kind of crap. Is it something I ate? Is here somethng wrong with my diet? Am I just getting tired? Is it the fact that the temperature in my office is about 60 degrees every day? Could it be that I'm just getting frustrated with work? Might it have anything to do with me now being an ordained minister? All I know is, it's interfering with my evening workout, as well as with other "physical activities." And that's just gotta stop.Think happy thoughts about Carol and Sean, who live in Alabama and are getting a touch of hurricane this week. I guess I feel better than them, anyway.

Finally I Know

Well, I was going to write somethng about the teenage girl at my door today or about becoming Reverend Billy or one of the other things that happened to me this week, but I think all of that is topped by finding out today that I'm going to Baghdad in a couple weeks for about 4 months to help set up their government, because hey, someone's got to.

Knock Knock

The other evening a young teenage girl knocked on our door, and when I answered, she asked me if my mom or dad was home. I don't get that at all, but I love it anyway.

It's Legal, Y'know

Just a note to the world in general: it's perfectly all right to use your turn signals in a parking lot. Seriously. It doesn't make you a nerd. Give it a try.Got Signal?

Paradigm Shift

The other day I got a little upset when I weighed in one morning and saw that I'd gone up to 143 pounds. That's UP, not DOWN.The funny thing about that is, only 2 months ago I weighed 153 pounds and was trying to work my way down. In that time I've changed my eating habits, adapted them as I found what worked for me and what I enjoyed, and started working out 6 times a week (a combination of cardio and weights every day). While I'm not perfect in meeting my daily plans for myself, the fact is I've lost weight and feel better. I'm eating better, too, still watching fat and cholesterol but also limiting my carb intake and changing the ratio between protein and carbs to something more balanced. I realize 153 pounds wasn't a lot, but it was all in the wrong place. I doubt I'll ever look like Adrian around my midsection, but I'm happier about how I look. And lordy, you should see my upper arms now. But back to the scale...I had actually gotten as far down as 140 last weekend, but bounced back up a bit. I'm holding pretty steady about 141-142 right now. I'll keep going with the workouts, and if that doesn't help reduce the tummy, there are always some nutritional changes still available. Don't you hate it when someone rambles onabout nutrition. Except for Dr. Lorraine. She loves that stuff. And she knows a helluva lot more about it than I.
